About: The small mandarin tree produces shiny, persistent leaves, perfumed white flowers and orange citrus fruits. Native to China, the tree owes its name to the Chinese Mandarins: bureaucratic scholars who received this fruit as a traditional gift. Mandarin essential oil’s calming properties combined with its pleasant scent make it excellent for promoting relaxation and sleep. A gentle oil, Mandarin is a good option for using around children and the elderly.
Common Uses: To promote sleep and a calm atmosphere, Mandarin essential oil may either be diffused or diluted to 1-5% and applied topically. Because Mandarin contains Methyle N-methylanthranilate and is potentially phototoxic, it is important to dilute before applying topically and to avoid exposing treated skin to the sun for 24 hours. To support the digestive system, massage Mandarin diluted in plant oil to the abdomen.
Topical dilution: 1-5%, more for specific conditions under professional guidance.
